A Chantels were a foremost melanize female class action to own countrywide profits. A goup was established in the early 1950's at St. Anthony of Padua school in the Bronx. A class action constisted of Arlene Smith (lead), Sonia Goring, Rene Minus, Jackie Landry & Lois Harris. It had their title from either the rival school, St. Francis de Chantelle.

It were found by Richard Barrett, lead singer of the Valentines & at length sign-language to Prevent Records. Their number 1 individual was "He's Gone" (Pop #71) inside August 1957. Around January 1958 they released their 2nd individual, "Maybe" (#15 Pop; #2 R&B). Many more singles were freed in Prevent, though none when successful when "Maybe".

A class action was come by Prevent around 1959, and Arlene Smith decided to last solo. Lois left to pursue the college education. Inside 1960, Annette Smith (no relation) replaced Arlene & a class action attend Carlton Records, in which it experienced their 2nd vast hit by owning "Look in My Eyes" (#14 pop, #6 R&B). Many more singles followed & a class action switched labels many days. Personnel changed throughout a Sixty's, using their final only freed within 1970.

Arlene fronted the newly class action of Chantels in the Seventies for oldies shows & continues to perform. A odd original Chantels reformed also & hired Noemi (Ami) Ortiz when their freshly lead singer.
